Degrees of Freedom

£1,800.00

Abstract painting on natural lokta paper using a variety of mediums such as alcohol ink, charcoal, oil pastel, acrylic and pigment chalk. Endless movement carefully balanced suggest an underlying order to this unusual painting. The colours in this original artwork imply an ancient map while the marks and symbols indicate deep arcane knowledge.

Some of the marks appear as mathematical equations, answers to arcane calculations of both a primitive and advanced kind.

Part of the Stickmen series, this artwork is inspired by the question of humanity’s reaction to potential destruction, such as severe climate change or cosmic interference. How might we humans endure post-technology. Where would we try to find a new home planet in the vast cosmos?

As humans, we live inside the fragile illusion of security. Advanced technology has entered our daily lives and we have been romanced by its cold alien presence. This painting is a reminder to us to preserve the connection to our human spirit, that mysterious equation within each of us that will forever be beyond the reaches of science, and that can never be resolved.
