When the sun parts darkened clouds, and spills its light over the land, even the most humble field looks up and weeps, its heart broken from so much kindness.

Oil pastels on paper

Original Artwork - signed framed and ready to hang

This artwork was created in a moment of joy. New oil pastels, fresh out of the box. I had that feeling of being a 9yr old again, with brand new stationery. (My parents sure know how to get me to go to my room!) Even the feel of these pastels was like crayons. I had to lean heavy to get the colour down. Back and forth, clumsy strokes, colouring outside the lines…

In fact, normally the background strokes are concealed in my other acrylic paintings, but this time I left them visible. I wanted to show the clouds scudding in a lively sky. I had just come back from a harbour town in Northern Ireland. The journey there passes wonderful countryside. On this particular day, the wind turbines (just seen on the horizon) were working hard. The light was strong and warm on the landscape.

Normally, thinking of the environment makes me fearful and sad. But this day I was very happy. I had hope for the future.
