This artwork was inspired by the process in quantum physics known as Entanglement, when two electrons stay connected even across vast distances. I relate this concept to human connection across time and space, to love beyond the grave, to grieving both the dead and the living.
This artwork conveys the notion of sleeping and waking. The stickmen in their tombs existing in a false sense of security, afraid to live. Stickmen taking the ultimate risk of leaving their homeworld, their comfort zone in their quest to live. In living they must face loss, despair and defeat.
Such is the human condition. These are the choices we must make, consciously or otherwise.
Created using marker, charcoal, acrylic, this small/medium artwork makes an impact at first glance, and is even more powerful up close. The light of the orbs seems to glow, which the golden stickmen in their orderly grid pose questions for which only the soul has answers.
"Smaller and smaller, the beautiful blue marble of planet Earth recedes in the vast black cosmos. My heart shatters into a trillion shards as you slowly disappear. How will I bear to live without you?
I will live with a soul as cold as an asteroid. I hurtle past nothing towards nothing, becoming less than void now that my being has no reference.
On and on into the infinite dark, no messages reach me..."
